<datacite:description descriptionType="Other">Tao Yuanming (365-427) is well known as a poet who remains aloof from others. For Chinese and Japanese, though he is a poet who is easy to be intimate with, he is still full of mysteries and various interpretations thus have been made on him. The purpose of my paper is to discuss the interpretation on Tao Yuanming by a famous Sinologist Okamura Shigeru. Okamura has made a negative valuation on Tao Yuanming and according to Okamura's opinion, Tao is not a detached poet from worldly matters as one usually sees, on the contrary, he is a common character who concerns about the worldly reality. On the basis of the arguments of the famous Sinologists like Shiba Rokuro, Yoshikawa Kojiro, Ikkai Tomoyoshi and so on, I will make an examination of Okamura's binary structure in his view and try to search for the sophisticated inner world of Tao Yuanming through the analysis of Tao Yuanming's concrete works.</datacite:description>
