For Chinese and Japanese, though he is a poet who is easy to be intimate with, he is still full of mysteries and various interpretations thus have been made on him. The purpose of my paper is to discuss the interpretation on Tao Yuanming by a famous Sinologist Okamura Shigeru. Okamura has made a negative valuation on Tao Yuanming and according to Okamura's opinion, Tao is not a detached poet from worldly matters as one usually sees, on the contrary, he is a common character who concerns about the worldly reality.
