The findings of previous studies have revealed that the difficulties in multiple births include physical, economic, and psychological problems. In this paper, we will discuss the \"social difficulties\" experienced in multiple birth childcare. \"Social difficulties\" is a concept proposed in this paper and includes the difficulties in social relationships. For instance, in the case of multiple birth childcare, the mother-child relationship becomes complex. Although a single birth creates a dyad, the mother-child relationship in the case of twins is a triad. There is a qualitative difference in the management of the relationship between dyads and triads. Findings from a series of interviews with the mothers of twins reveal that they experience a feeling of strangeness and are unable to describe it. This feeling originates in \"social difficulties,\" which themselves are created in the mother-child relationship in multiple births; in such cases, the relationship is not that of a dyad, but the mothers assume that a single birth's standard can be applied.
