His life is detailed in the book “Matsuyama Takayoshi” edited by Professor Yasuo Mizoguchi (1969, Matsuyama Takayoshi Memorial Publishing Society). He was involved in the translation of the New Testament in 1879 and the Old Testament in 1887. He also worked on the subsequent Taisho Revision of the Bible. In this paper, I discuss materials collected from Matsuyama-Bunko of Kobe College Foundation, which include translations related to the initial translation of the “Psalms” and “Isaiah” during the Meiji era, as well as a memorandum written during the final stages of the publication of the “Psalms” translation. This documentation provides detailed insights into the specific role played by Matsuyama in the late stages of the “Psalms” publication process. The same source material is not a one-time recording but can be divided into two main parts: the compilation of translation words and the memoranda section specifically related to the final stages of the translation publication of the “Psalms” during the early Meiji period. It is believed that there were repeated entries of translation words and notes. The compilation of translation words consists of words that Matsuyama himself considered necessary for Bible translation, which were extracted and arranged at his discretion. This section includes English (katakana notation), Chinese characters, definitions in Japanese, and correlations between the choice of words.  \n  Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the Japanese-language annotations were made using the “WakunShiori” and the “Wamyo-Ruijusho.” Additionally, from the early Meiji period translations, especially those related to the “Psalms,” Matsuyama played a central role in practical printing tasks, including proofreading before printing.
