 note = {P(論文), 奈良倶楽部とは奈良公園の一角に明治22（1889）年から昭和60（1985）年までの約１世紀、存在した建物である。この建物は明治前期の和風スタイルを採る建築では珍しく十字の平面を有し、その中央交差部には楼閣風の塔が付く。その破風には海鼠壁が張り巡らされ、頂部棟端には奈良時代復古風の鴟尾が載り、四面ともに入母屋造となる外観を示す。このように、一般的な和風建築ではまずはありえない不思議な形が表現されていた。内部は塔の下、１階から３階まで吹き抜けの一続きの空間となる。ここには明らかに西洋建築に影響を受けた空間が現出していた。従来の伝統的な和風建築では用いられなかった擬和風の手法が用いられており、明治以降の近代建築の特質を示す建築といえる。奈良倶楽部については施主名以外、設計者はおろか、施工者もわからず、何のためにこのような形になったのかも含めて一切が不詳であった。筆者はこの建物を設計したのが日本美術の恩人とされる御雇い外国人教師アーネスト・フェノロサだったという文献を先年に見いだした。その信憑性については検討の余地があるが、すなわちこの史実の解明は日本の近代建築史だけにとどまらず、文化史全体にまで影響を及ぼす内容であると考え、探究に至った。奈良倶楽部とは銀行の集会所としてつくられるが、天皇の行在所となるなど、奈良では最も格式の高い建築として位置した。奈良の大工棟梁で後に明治神宮の建設責任者となる木村米次郎が設計に関わっていたことが判明した。フェノロサの設計の可能性はおそらくは外観スタイルや内部空間の提案レベルのものであり、スケッチくらいは描いた可能性もある。, 1, Originally built for an assembly holl of a bank, the Nara Kurabu has been regarded as the most formal architecture in Nara, having been used as the Emperor's temporary quarters. KIMURA Yonejiro was engaged in the design, who afterwards worked as master builder for the Meiji Shrine.
2, Depending on the recollections of the architect SO Heizou, my research for this paper is to evaluate the degree of influence of the designer of Fenollosa. However, the facts indicate that Fenollosa may have merely suggested the design of the internal space and the external style, only drawing some of the design.
3, The Architectural features are: the ornamental ridge-end tile on the roof ("Shibi"), the gable, the "namakokabe" (sea-cucumber-like wall), the "Irimoya" style in all sides, the interior cross type in blow-through space, etc. In general, the style is mixed with pseudo-Japanese and pseudo-European, which is never seen in traditional Japanese architecture. "Nara Kurabu" building represents the characteristics of modern style in the Meiji era.
4, While it was least evaluated among architects, OE Hiroshi appreciated it highly in terms of space design.},
