Psychologists as well as college students and lay-people usually attribute psychological gender differences to genetic and physiological variables and even to evolutionary perspectives, whereas racial and ethnic differences reported in psychological papers are discussed in terms of cultural and social backgrounds. Feminist psychologists have struggled to reinterpret those gender differences in social contexts, pointing out that psychological and behavioral differences between women and men may be confounded with nonegalitarian distribution of power in soceity.
