This text will explore the political situation of that time by considering how Houshi was chosen to be Emperor Rokujo's menoto.\nWhen Emperor Nijo opposed his father, Emperor Go-Shirakawa, his sources of support were the  regent family and the Hamuro family, the family of menoto who had taken care of him. Fujiwara no Houshi was the daughter of Fujiwara no Kunitsuna, who was the steward in charge of running the regent family. Her husband was Fujiwara no Nariyori from the Hamuro family.
