The concept of the “Fear of God” in the wisdom tradition and the concept of “moral impurity” in ancient Israel are principles which have a universal perspective targeting gentiles also. Here we see a similarity with the viewpoint which connects universal order with social-moral order. In ancient Israel, however, this idea of universality is the principle that connects God’s sovereignty with the order underlying all creation under the concept of “the only God” and “the Creator God.” Following this conception Second Temple Jewish literature developed the idea that the ordering of creation (i. e. creatures) by God is according to God’s law.
