The initial Montessori Movement was founded in the United States in the 1910s. Americans debated Montessori’s doctrine of ‘ liberty’ and ‘discipline’. Despite the Americans’ initial enthusiasm, they lost interest in the Montessori Method in approximately 1915. One may ask what gave rise and decline to the Montessori Method.The answers may be found in The Montessori Method, which was published in 1912. We can see certain changes in the English edition, such as the addition of two chapters. One may question why Montessori changed the text and what influence it had on subsequent research on the Montessori Method.
