| 内容記述 | プラトンの『ポリティコス』と『国家』とはどのような関係にあるのだろうか。本論文はこの問いに答えるために、『ポリティコス』における理想的な政治家が『国家』における哲人王にではなくて、理想国の創設者に対応することを明らかにする。『ポリティコス』と『国家』の関係がいかなるものであるかについては、そもそも関係を論じないもの（加藤）、異質であることを強調するもの（スコフィールド、チェリー）、同質であることを主張するもの（カーン）、といった解釈がなされてきた。1で筆者はこういった解釈を簡単に紹介し、2でそれらに対する批判を述べる。筆者の見るところ、加藤の解釈はアリストテレスの最善のポリスの在り方についての考え方を楽観的にとらえすぎているように思える。スコフィールドの解釈は理想国の創設者がどのように誕生するかをプラトンがなぜ論じていないことを見落としている。チェリーの解釈はエレアからの客人とソクラテスとの違いを強調しすぎる。確かにエレアからの客人は、哲人王を主張するソクラテスとは違って、哲学者と政治家とを区別する。しかしたとえ哲学者と政治家が区別されるのだとしても、同一人物が哲学的知と政治的知の両方を持つことを妨げるものではない。かくして筆者は最後の解釈を取るカーンの議論に賛成する。しかし、カーンの解釈にも批判すべき点はある。3で筆者はそれを述べ、自己の見解を明らかにする。カーンは理想的な政治家と哲人王を同一視するが、筆者はその解釈をとらない。なぜならば、理想的な政治家が法を超えた存在であるのに対して、哲人王は確かに法をつくる働きは持つが、しかし国家の根幹をなす重要な法はこれを決して変えないことが期待されているからである。『ポリティコス』における理想の政治家はむしろ理想国の「創設者」と同一視されるべきなのである。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | What is the relationship between the Politicus of Plato and the Republic? To answer this question, this paper clarifies that the ideal statesman in the Politicus does not correspond to the philosopher king but to the founder of the Kallipolis in the Republic. There are three interpretations about the relationship between these two dialogues : the interpretation that never discusses this problem (Kato); the interpretation that emphasizes the differences of the Politicus from the Repulic (Schofield and Cherry); and the interpretation that insists on the similarities between the two (Kahn). I introduce their arguments briefly in section 1 and critique them in section 2. Kato's interpretation is too optimistic to grasp the true meaning of Aristotle's notion of the best polis. Schofield fails to see why Plato does not discuss how the founder of the Kallipolis will be born. Cherry emphasizes the difference of the Eleatic Stranger from Socrates too much. It is true that while Socrates advocates philosopher kings, the Eleatic Stranger distinguishes between philosophers and statesmen. But even if they should be distinguished in theory, it is possilble that the one and the same person could have both philosophical and political knowledge. Thus, I basically agree with Kahn. However, Kahn's interpretation must be criticized for several points. I argue these in section 3 and present my own interpretation. Kahn assumes some identity between the ideal statesman and the philosopher king. But I disagree on that point, because while the ideal statesman is a figure beyond laws, the philosopher king, having the ability to change some laws, is expected to guard he very fundamental laws of the Kallipolis. The ideal statesman should be regarded as the same person as the founder of the Kallipolis. |
