内容記述 | Miyazawa kinji eventually settled in his hometown till his death after he struggled and wandered in his youth searching for what he should do for himself and people. He left us a marvelous fortune of his literary products and a legend about him as a social reformer with a lofty ideal. We owe him a lesson for life and morality. However, Kenji's last letter written ten days before his death suggests his ambition and failure of his activities in life. That seems contrary to the popular image of Kenji as someone like a saint. A man's career is generally estimated in terms of success in the world or contribution to the humanity. In spite of his repentance and underestimation by himself, we still respect him because his career is different from other people in that it was built on his inquiry into the truth of life, not on eagerness to fulfill his worldly desires. Ambition and self-sacrifice differ from each other in kind. Kenji's ambition was mainly toward literary creation, while his activities toward peasants in his native land, Hanamaki, was disinterested and self-sacrificing Through his life and career, he searched for the appropriate place and self-expression both in his artistic creation and service to the fellow peasants. Kenji's proper place must have been in his mind in sway, It is represented as images of what he calls "shinsho" (maind image). | |||||
