内容記述 In the first chapter of this paper. I intend to reconsider and arrange the vairous studies of commemoration and memory. For example these are the study of collective memory of Maurice Halbwachs, the historical sociology of Max Weber and Michel Foucault, the historical studies of nationalism (neonationalism) and memory, the modern sociological theories of memory, the works of "Realms of Memory "under the directions of Pierre Nora ("Les Lieux de Memoire" sous la direction de P.Nora). France's leading intellectuals in "Realms of Memory" ("Les Lieux de Memoire") examine how the French have reinvented their past from the 19th century downward and reconsider how many myths become fused with history in the creation of a collective national heritage. In the second chapter of this paper, I survey the cultural and social history of commemorations of Tairo Ii Naosuke before the world war II. Ii Naosuke (1815-1860) is known as one of the most powerful officers and classical scholars in the last days of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Naosuke was appointed to the position of Great Elder (Tairo) in 1858 and advocated the need to open up Japan to the outside world. Naosuke attempted to halt the opposition with the Ansei Purge, but his mission caused a misunderstanding and he was assassinated by a band of Mito Ronin near Sakurada Gate of Edo Castle on March 3. 1860. The commemorations of Tairo Ii Naosuke would be assorted into three piles that are the ceremonial occasion of the anniversary of Ii Naosuke's death and birth, the movement of Ii Naosuke's monuments and revision of the textbook on Japnese history for elementray school. Ii Tairo was regarded as 'traitor to the Emperor (Mikado) and the Meiji Government'. Peoples in the Hikone Clan and Hikone District have carried out the commemorations in order to clear 'the stigma and misunderstanding of Tairo Ii Naosuke'. And on the following paper, I am planning to survey the cultural and social history of commemorations of Tairo Ii Naosuke after the world war II.
