| 内容記述 | This paper is intended as a preface to the forthcoming research on the development of Kobe Foreign Settlement into the current commercial zone. The problem should be how to recover humanistic attitude to appreciate landscape differently from that of architects or city planners who make most use of geometrical perspectives or arithmetic calculations. In history of ideas, we can trace such tendency of a simple cause and effect explanation about our landscape perception, the examples of which are Burke's theory of aesthetic experience and that of Turnbull on landscape painting as representing natural laws. Their methods might be a derivative of Descartes' emphasis on geometrical method. In contrast, we can evaluate Vico's idea of history, who is against Descartes, criticizing the methodological attitude toward the simplest view of nature. Through the more historical knowledge as well as geographical or other kinds of knowledge about a landscape, our appreciation of it must be the deeper. Orhan Pamuk clearly describes his existential identification woth the Bosphorus by the help of the paintings. His memory, images and perceptions of the Bosphorus are integrated with his sense of life. Similarly, we can reconstruct our better image of a landscape by acquiring more of historical knowledge. | |||||
