| 内容記述 | In thinking about a child's schooling and educational environment, the home is first and foremost an indispensable haven for children and most parents raise their child with adequate love and care. However, the number of child abuse cases has been on the rise in Japan, with some cases resulting in the child's death. Parents play various roles as protector, legal guardian, and a cooperative member of school education. However, parents also turn out to be the source of the child's problem itself. Along-term study by NHK Broadcasting Culture Research Institute showed that parental attitudes have shifted over the years, with their becoming increasingly frivolous and irresponsible, as well as less traditional in thier values. Okonogi (1981) suggested that modern society is responsible for producing greater numbers of individuals with narcissistic tendencies. In many schools today, teachers have been experiencing difficulty dealing with unreasonable claims made by parents who are self-centered, relentless, and violent. My view is that at least some of the parents who cause such trouble suffer from personality disorders, in particular narcissistic personality disorders. It is therefore imperative that teachers be able to set firm limits of what are the area of school responsibility and that the board of education support teachers by actively mediating such disputes. | |||||
