| 内容記述 | A memorial service in a Japanese Christian church refers to a special service memorializing the deceased and is held after the funeral services. The role of a memorial service is not only to "comfort and console the bereaved family" but "commend the deceased to God". I insist that the memorial service handles the latter more positively. There is a deep relationship between commending to God and comforting the dead. For the bereaved family who are saddened, the destiny of the dear departed after death is of great interest. However, there are concerns when we think about life after death. The reason why we have a lot of images about the world of the dead through our culture, traditions, other religions like Japanese Buddhism, we must give our careful consideration to the hope after death, it must be in line with the Christian concept related to the dead and after death. In this paper, I have examined the Christian view of death in the Bible and the Christian history. As a conclusion, I understand the Bible has not explained about the situation of the dead in detail and it suggests that we are not allowed to know about matters after death, everything is left to the imagination. In the Christian history, we could find various ideas of the life after death, such as hell or purgatory, but it was a deviation from the Gospel. The bible show us what we can do is to entrust to God, who is beyond human imagination or understanding. As holding memorial service, we insist that we have no choice but to place our hope in God. | |||||
