| 内容記述 | This paper reports on a document newly found in the Music Library of Kobe College. It is the 'Music Lesson Record of the Music School, Kobe College for 1907 to 1923', which contains precise records of the music lessons in each school term, given to eighty-eight students in total, from shortly after the establishment of the Music School in 1906. Each page of this book is divided into five columns: 1) the instrument or the subject in which the lesson was given: organ, piano,singing, theory and history; 2) the exercises: the types of scales (chromatic, arpeggio), the names of keys, etc.; 3) the etudes: Czerny Bertini, Spengler etc.; 4) the pieces: Schubert, Haydn, Chopin etc.; 5) remarks: each student's ability, character and accomplishments are reported in short phrases. In the margin, the relevant teacher names are given. Investigations into its content and structure have resulted in the following three points: First, it is an important primary source for the music education in Meiji and Taisho Japan , especially in one of the mission schools, of which historical researches have only been made sporadically. Second, the entries in the record are disordered, because it also contains, in three separate parts (pages 4, 31 and 125), reports o the lessons of no later than 1900, 1902. In addition of these anomalous parts has led to the understanding that this book was used or the first time in 1900 as a record of weekly music lessons, then almost all the used sheets were cut off, except the three sheets, and used anew from Septenler 1907. Third, an examination of the lesson records of the fiffeen students from 1907 to 1911, that is, towards the end of the Meiji era will be a contibution to a better understanding of the musin education provided by the missionary ladies, Elizabeth Torrey and Charlotte B.
