内容記述 | What we used to take for granted often comes into question now. One example is the way people look at male-female roles institutionalized in modern society with the birth of the modern family. Today, by such socio-cultural changes as the increase in the number of women working outside of the home, the big change in the life cycle, the converted social values, and so on, our way of life has being undergoing a rapid transfiguration, and the boundary between men's society and women's society has become unclear. But in Japan, there still remains a strong consciousness of the division of role according to gender and of making a distinction between femininity and masculinity compared with some other countries. The background of these thoughts is represented by the community in a sense of family, which stresses the dependence on the group more than the autonomy of the individual. In addition, what has supported this discrimination against woman is the view which divides the world into masculinity and femininity; in other words, culture and nature. In this view of the world, culture, in essence, is considered as opposed to nature with man as the master of nature; hence making nature subordinate to culture, But such a view of the world has only brought about the destruction of nature and the neglect of human life. We must now reconsider this concept of culture and redefine it as a more comprehensive one by also including the problems of nature and life. Now, the creation of new life styles for both man and woman is probably one of the biggest subjects of culture, so culture must comprehend such whole meanings related to our life as natural, social, spiritual and historical. | |||||
