| 内容記述 | 米国ハーヴァード大学ホートン・ライブラリー所蔵のアメリカン・ボード宣教師文書（American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions Archives, 1810-1961, Call No.ABC 1-91)の調査を2015年9月16日から4日間行い、イライザ・タルカット、エリザベス・タレー、シャーロット・バージス・デフォレストの3人を中心に書簡の収集を行った。この宣教師文書は、1810年から1961年までの150年間に世界各地の宣教師から寄せられた書簡類を中心にまとめたもので、全長385メートルに及ぶ膨大な史料群である。これまでに858巻のマイクロフィルムが作成されているが、全体から見れば極一部でしかない。本学図書館が所蔵するマイクロフィルムには、タルカット書簡62通、タレー書簡21通、デフォレスト書簡60通が収められており、それらの予備調査を行った上で渡米した。現地調査の成果として、1）マイクロフィルムでは解読困難な手書き書簡を中心にデジタル・カメラでの撮影を行って鮮明な画像を得ることができた。 2）マイクロフィルム化されていない史料の中に、婦人伝道団宛のタルカット書簡46通を始めとして、メアリー・ラドフォード書簡2通、デフォレスト書簡(1920年代）221通、同（1930年代）約180通、同（1940年代）63通、”Kobe College"と題されたファイル3冊とボックス2箱があり、大量の史料が手つかずのままになっていることが判明した。 3）史料の一部は傷みが激しく、早急に対策を講じる必要があることが痛感された。この調査は、本学研究所の「総合研究助成」による研究（研究課題：宣教師文書の解読と解明～デフォレスト文書を中心に～）の一環として行ったもので、収集した画像を活用して、今後書簡の解読を進めていく計画である。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | This paper reports on my research of 'American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions Archives, 1810-1961 (ABC 1-91)' in the Houghton Library, Harvard University, conducted in September 2015, which was focused on the missionary letters of three former teachers of Kobe College, Eliza Talcott, Elizabeth Torrey and Charlotte Burgis De Forest. These ABCFM Archives, containing missionary letters from 1810 to 1961 sent from across the world, amount to 1261 linear feet as compiled and bound mainly in book forms, which have partly been microfilmed in 858 rolls. The microfilms possessed by the Kobe College Library contain 62 letters of Talcott, 21 of Torrey, and 60 of De Forest, which I had already checked prior to this research visit. The results of my research in the Houghton Library include: 1) The letters illegible in microfilms have been made into legible digital data; 2) A number of un-microfilmed letters and other materials concern the history of Kobe College: 46 letters of Talcott to Woman's Board of Missions, two letters of Mary Radford, and of De Forest letters, 221 from 1920's, about 180 from 1930's and 63 from 1940's, as well as materials in three thick files and two boxes named 'Kobe College' : 3) Some of these letters are seriously damaged and urgently await conservation. This research is a part of Sougou-Kenkyu Project, 'Reading Missionary Letters of Charlotte De Forest and others', supported by the Kobe College Research Center. Newly acquired materials will provide a bases for further development of this Sougou-Kenkyu project. |
