内容記述 | In her Pilgrim at Tinker Creek (1974) that won the Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction in 1975, Annie Dillard refers to S.T. Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner and "Kubla Khan." Dillard compares her irresistible impulse to communicate her experiences of intricate mysterious beauty at Tinker Creek to others, with that of the Mariner teaching his tale to the Wedding Guest. Dillard also identifies herself with "I" the poet, in "Kubla Khan, " who tries to explain a vision of Kubla's miraculous pleasure-dome he saw in his dream. Coleridge and Dillard bear a certain similarity in their attempts to embody the beautiful grasped by "the divine imagination" that awakes an inspiring self-awareness as "I am in that, or because 'I AM' (Exodus. 3.14)." They try to appeal to their readers the significance of becoming wisely passive to the greater creative power of the universe, so as to await actively chances to wonder at the visionary moments when they cannot choose but feel the sense of "I AM THAT I AM." Schellingian "divine imagination" which is at once both active and passive leads them to the experience of the beautiful as a symbol of transcendental Beauty. | |||||
