| 内容記述 | 詩人かつ批評家のテオドール・ド・バンヴィルにおけるレアリスムの概念について考察した。バンヴィルにとってレアリスムの権化たる人物が画家のギュスターヴ・クールベだ。バンヴィルの批評や戯曲、詩において、クールベは醜さを追求する画家として批判され戯画化されている。また、諷刺詩「レアリスム」ではロマン主義的な紋切り型とレアリスム一派への揶揄が巧みに織り交ぜられている。バンヴィルは、詩は夢想ばかりを歌う無益なものという『レアリスム』誌からの非難を自認する素振りを見せながら、二重の諷刺という形でそれを乗り越えてみせているのだ。しかしバンヴィルは、レアリスムの具体例となる文学作品を挙げることがない。その理由は、バンヴィルにおけるレアリスムが、現実を忠実に描くことではなく現実以上に醜いものを描くことを意味しているからだ。そうしたレアリスムの美学を体現する作品は、芸術至上主義者のバンヴィルにとってもはや文学ではないのである。その一方でバンヴィルは、叙情性と諧謔が融合した新しい詩を目指していた。とすれば、バンヴィルもまたレアリスムとは別の形で、詩をとおして現実に対峙していたと言えるだろう。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | This essay aims to clarify Théodore de Banville’s concept of Realism. For Banville, who was a poet and a critic, the representative figure of Realism was the painter Gustave Courbet. In Banville’s criticisms, plays, and poems, Courbet is condemned and caricatured as a painter who pursues ugliness. In his satirical poem “Realism”, Banville skillfully interweaves Romanticist clichés with the ridicule of the Realist school. Banville appears to recognize the Realist magazine’s accusation that the poetry is futile fantasy, but he overcomes it in the form of a double satire. Banville, however, never cites a specific literary work as an example of Realism. The reason for this is that for him, Realism does not mean the faithful imitation of nature ; but rather, it means the representation of something uglier than reality. The works that embody the aesthetics of Realism are no longer literature for Banville, an advocate for art for art’s sake. On the other hand, Banville was aiming for a new style of poetry where lyricism and humor were combined. If that was the case, it can be said that Banville was also confronting reality through poetry in a way different from that of Realism. | |||||||||||
